40th Annual Colorado Black Arts Festival

Denver recently hosted the 40th Annual Colorado Black Arts Festival from June 10th to June 12th, 2026. During this vibrant event, I had the pleasure of meeting Kaylee (@NoKaylee), a talented artist originally from Pittsburgh. Kaylee’s journey has led her to Denver, where she has established herself as a painter, educator, and community outreach coordinator. At the festival, she was in the midst of creating a mural designed for collaborative contributions from attendees, showcasing the diverse artistic talents present throughout the weekend. Documented images illustrate the evolution of her mural as the festival unfolded.

Pig Roast @ Charlie Brown's Bar & Grill

On Friday, I returned to one of the establishments frequently visited by my former colleagues and me during my years with the State of Colorado. Located on the first floor of the historic Hotel Colburn at 980 Grant Street, @CharlieBrownsBarandGrill is one of Denver's longest continuously operating bars. Since purchasing the establishment in 1990, owner George Andrianakas has continued a popular summer tradition by hosting an annual pig roast. For approximately twelve years, Chef Status has played a key role in preparing this community-favorite barbecue. The photos from my visit capture this longstanding tradition and the enthusiasm with which the complimentary barbecue was enjoyed by patrons and guests alike.

Vibes in the Park

Vibes in the Park, established in 2020, has quickly become a leading event tailored for the Black community, providing an opportunity for connection, healing, and celebration in an open-air setting. The event unfolds over five Sundays from May to September and features an array of attractions including food vendors, DJ performances, yard games, dancing, and barbecued offerings.
